Hmm, I'm not sure about this. I do think that Akari totally refuse
this love in the beginning. I'm not sure about it in the end though.
I mean, it IS Akari who gives in the final kiss, Kris only kiss her
on the cheeks (or on the forehead?)

That's awfully right! And that's why their love is so well hidden in
the show! So if you really give in the Akari and Kris' love theory,
you must go beyond the physical evidences, and rather look for
symbols. Now I know it's always dangerous to interpret symbols,
because it easily falls into exaggeration, but it's the only way
lesbianism could be introduced in a show even youngsters can
watch and enjoy, with all my blessing, only with a less profound
understanding.
I think it all revolves around the light of Midoh Tomoe thing, which
may be interpreted as sexual relationship, or orgasm as a
matter a fact. OK OK, before telling that I am going too far read
some more hints:
%%In real life, some women perceive orgasm as an intense white
light, and this is no invention.%%
During the final race (or The Last Waltz), Akari and Kris finally
attain at the same time the state of light (simultaneous
orgasm?), which plunge them in a state of profound happiness.
Kris knows that the final race will barr her from becoming a
priestress, now we all know that chastety is a mandatory
condition in some religions for becoming a priest or nun or
anything else. But her love overcomes that will to become a
priestress, as we get to know from her own words, in one of the
final episodes just before she is recruited to become part of the
earth-saving team, when she says that she has no regret and is
willing to make it over again.
Akari really is in the age of full blooming for a young girl, don't
you think so?
Now for the non-sexual part,
Anna gives us some hint about the nature of the relation
between Kris and Akari, when she talks about how she got a bit
jealous about how they were working towards the same goal,
just before Tanya starts running like mad in episode 20 or 21...
so was she jealous about their love or about their special
friendship? Well we also know what Anna thinks about Akari,
she thinks that Akari is "experienced" when Kris learns about
Itchan being a "valuable friend' of her, at the celebration before
the Great Competition.
This may be only my own opinion, but I think that the desperation
that Akari (and Kris) felt when Mister Miracle barred Kris from
approaching Akari is something that look much more like
caused by the separation from the loved one than by that from a
friend. Just my opinion. Probably one of the most wonderful
moments of the whole series, by the way.
I may come across other ideas as I'll shuffle through the last
episodes later today. Just keep in mind that this is only my
opinion, that all those so-called "evidences" don't prove anything
but rather point in the direction of the great love theory between
Akari and Kris. And after all, anyone has the right to have his own
opinion about the series. I just like to think about their
relationship that way :)
Seeya!
